As part of the national “StartUp Britain” campaign, the “StartUp Games” electrified London’s “Tech City” from August 29-31. With the backdrop of the 2012 Paralympic Games, some of the world’s most talented entrepreneurs and brightest startups came to to Hackney House to show off the talent and innovation Britain has on offer.
Organised by UK Trade & Investment’s Tech City Investment Organisation, the event was organised to bring UK entrepreneurs to meet and collaborate, and meet potential partners and clients from around the world.
Big hitters at the event included Dan Crow, CTO, Songkick; Paul Birch, Co-Founder of Bebo; Gerald Walker, Head of Bloomberg Ventures UK; Georg Ell, General Manager EMEA at Yammer; Debu Purkayastha, Principal, New Business Development, Google; and Oli Barrett, co-founder of StartUp Britain.
As part of the “Don’t Pitch Me Bro” event at the end of day two, Mindings Founder Stuart Arnott was invited to present a case study of some of the challenges faced building a business, by asking the audience for “advice” on three key questions.
Stuart asked:
Is Mindings a business or a service?
Who is Mindings customer? and the question that caused the most discussion
Social Cool or Social Care?
Considering that for some time, Mindings has been causing a stir in the care community, it was a pleasant surprise to hear the majority of the cream of the UK’s hottest entrepreneurs insist that Mindings was cool!
All in all, a very gratifying night, made all the better by the subsequent discovery of some very flattering Tweets about Mindings.
The lesson? Care is good, but the people like Cool!
